The Site Looks Different, What Happened?

Something seems a little different around here. If you’ve noticed a change in the site’s design, here’s why.

For the past week or so, we’ve been dealing with some issues caused by the theme we were using for the comic. Unfortunately, the developers behind DesignWicked, the theme we’ve relied on for a while, have announced that they are shutting down. Due to rising hosting costs and a lack of continued support, they can no longer work on WordPress themes.

So, after considering the situation, we’ve decided to transition to a new theme now rather than risk further issues with no future updates from DesignWicked.

We’ve worked hard to keep things as familiar as possible, but there are a few upgrades worth mentioning:

  • Better Mobile Support: The site is now more responsive, improving your reading experience on phones and tablets. Plus, it should load faster!
  • Improved Navigation: You can now click on the comic to move to the next page—something we’ve wanted for a while! You’ll also be able to bookmark your spot and easily access the archive.
  • Dynamic Headers: With the ability to rotate header images, the site will look fresh every so often. It’s a small touch, but we’re excited about it!
  • Streamlined Design: We’ve removed the sidebar to keep the focus on the comic, giving the site a cleaner, more minimalist feel.
  • Improved Readability: The comic, Disqus comment section, and archive should all be easier to read with the new layout.

We’re confident these changes will make your experience here better. Thanks for your patience as we make this transition! As always, feel free to leave feedback or let us know if anything feels off!

This'll do, but I do prefer if there is a "Latest" page one can bookmark, be it the main page or some special splash page or whatever, so that with a quick run through some bookmarks, just automatically see a comic. either it's new or it's the same as the last time you checked. Y'know? But this will work, it shows me the last few updates and I can just click on the top one. Has the date right on it. This'l be fine.

Yeah, I didn't change the actual functionality of how the comic was from before. The bookmark feature was supposed to be there, but the Theme we were using was causing it not to work. One of the first of many issues to come, I'm sure. Now that it's changed, I guess the bookmark feature popped up and same with clicking on the comic image to go to the next.

We do have the "Latest Comic" link in the menu that I had to manually put there and update every time there is a new post. It's not ideal but kind of gets the job done. I think one day we'll have a custom website built for us and then I can get everyone's requests and make a shopping list! lol!

If only free, simple, automated comic hosts still existed that weren't heavily restrictive of everything from the content to the file size and shape. Comicgenesis and such. Those were better times.

Those were indeed the good old days. We used to be on Comic fury too – I think that is still around. I know the big players now are Webtoons and Tapas, but I don’t know, I’m just not feeling those sites right now. We’re on Tapas a little tiny bit but I don’t keep up with it.

Being on other comic sites, while it can be good for exposure, you are absolutely right about them being so restrictive. Plus, you never know when one of them might shut down on a whim. But I'd take this website any day. I love working with it and while isn’t the greatest – I’m sure we’ll figure out a way to make it really capture what we need one day!
